learndirect announces regional award winners

72 learndirect learners, employers and learndirect learning providers in England are celebrating their success after winning a Regional learndirect Achievement Award.

Winners received their awards at one of the nine Regional Awards Ceremonies which took place across England . Winners were chosen from over 1700 nominations put forward, and will be representing their regions at the Achievement Awards national final in October.

One of the winners is the White Lion Training learndirect centre, based in Corby . The centre won the South East Region Innovative Centre Award, which recognises centres who have used technology and outreach programmes to support their learners.

White Lion uses a number of outreach centres to engage with the local community, offering literacy, numeracy, IT and NVQ level courses. Tutors work both in the outreach centres and also interact with learners via webcams linked to the main centre, so that learners can contact their tutors online. Tutors also demonstrate new courses over the webcam and this way of communicating means that every learner has regular contact with the centre.

On receiving the award Sandy Clark, managing girector of White Lion Training, commented: "We are delighted to have won this award! We hope that the award will encourage local people and employers in Corby to visit us and consider using learndirect as a means to access training and we can't wait to tell our learners about our success!"

Dereth Wood, Ufi operations director said: "All of the Regional winners are an inspiration to millions of learners across England and their commitment in developing their skills and qualifications is something we can all be proud of. Each of these individuals truly deserves recognition and I wish them the best of luck at the national ceremony in October."
