New BT learning centre launched

Representatives from the Communication Workers Union (CWU), BT, and local education provider the College of North East London , yesterday attended the opening of the Colindale House Learning Centre in London.

At the event, which celebrated the work of the CWU and BT in establishing Workplace Learning Centres at BT sites, certificates were presented to the learners who completed the first programme run at the centre.

Nick Bury, CWU North West London Branch and Learning Centre co-ordinator said: "I am delighted to welcome everyone to the Official Opening of the Colindale House Learning Centre today and have the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to make today possible. The partnership between BT and CWU has led to both the employees and the employer benefiting from an improvement in skills."

Barry Francis, unionlearn's regional manager with the Southern and Eastern Region TUC , said "Unionlearn is supporting projects like this all over the East of England, London and the South East and I am pleased to see the difference that unions like the CWU are making to their members lives, both in a personal and workplace capacity.

"More confident employees make an organisation stronger and BT, working with the CWU has shown its commitment to its workforce by establishing this learning centre."
