BAE Systems opts for InfoBasis skills software
BAE Systems has deployed skills management software from InfoBasis. The defence and aerospace company has recently completed the re-tendering of its IT services. These are now provided by a range of suppliers.
"Our new services contracts are much more sophisticated and we have a multi-vendor environment. Managing this is complex, and requires specialist skills," said head of strategy and architecture Malcolm Carrie.
"Version 3 of SFIA, the Skills Framework for the Information Age, has provided us with a language and structure to describe what we have and what we need. By deploying this industry-standard skills framework on InfoBasis ESM, we will be able to bring added rigour to the professional development of our 450 IT staff in the UK."
BAE Systems is using InfoBasis tools to help it compare the skills it requires with the current skills of its IT professionals. This provides input for setting training and development plans. "Using SFIA in the InfoBasis toolset is enabling us be more precise in defining job profiles, to have clearer appraisal conversations, and build more targeted development plans," comments Carrie.
InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton said: "Managing the capability of an organisation is about more than building technical IT skills. It's also very much about maintaining a strategic understanding of IT and managing the supply chain well. BAE Systems have clearly shown their commitment to doing this while building a cohesive group of IT professionals."
