The hotel chain says the new scheme is available to all Travelodge employees, regardless of current position or length of service. The selection process involves two interviews and successful applicants are then enrolled on a twelve-week training programme. Providing they pass the course, they will ultimately have responsibility for their own hotel and a team of up to 40 staff. For eight weeks of the course, trainees are taught about hotel management. The remaining four weeks of the course are spent working in the hotel where they were based before training commenced with the objective of putting their learning into practice. The twelve-week course includes the following modules:
The newly qualified hotel managers attend a formal graduation dinner, hosted by Travelodge's Director of Operations, at the end of the twelve weeks to celebrate their achievements. Jane Frost, Travelodge's training and brand support manager said: "Our staff are our most valuable asset and it's clear the success of the business revolves around them. "We are committed to helping our staff realise their full potential through learning and development and this is why we have created such a unique training programme. "The scheme is essential as it will help us meet the demand for high-calibre individuals to manage the 40 (approximate) new hotels we intend to open every year to 2010."
