Awards can be a great way to gain recognition for the work your training department is doing or to use as part of a quality assessment for potential suppliers. On this page:
The National Training Awards
The National Training Awards (NTA) are designed to recognise organisations and individuals that have achieved lasting excellence through training. The National Training Awards are managed by UK Skills and are open to organisations and individuals across all sectors and sizes of organisation.
In 2005, over 700 entries were whittled down to 223 finalists. The finalists then attended awards ceremonies throughout October 2005, to discover if they had won a training award for their area or a national award.
The 57 national award winners that were chosen then attended a ceremony in November 2005, where 10 of them were presented with Special National Training Awards for outstanding achievement through training and development. These included Nando's Chickenland Ltd, BP Chemicals with Hull College and Tube Lines Ltd with Advantage Performance Training Ltd.

The World of Learning Awards
The World of Learning Awards, now in their sixth year, recognise organisations and individuals whose achievements are judged to have notably improved workplace productivity and performance.
The 2006 Awards were presented at a black-tie dinner on 14 November 2006 at the NEC, Birmingham, hosted by actress, comedienne and impressionist Caroline Bernstein.
The 2006 award categories were:
- Bespoke Solution of the Year
- Blended Solution of the Year
- Generic Solutions of the Year
- Online Solution of the Year
- Learning Innovation of the Year
- Training Venue of the Year
- Outstanding Contribution to the Training Industry
- Training Manager of the Year
- Training Provider of the Year

Categories in the Apprenticeship Awards include Apprentice of the Year, Advanced Apprentice of the Year and, for the first time in 2006, for the Young Apprentice of the Year, following the introduction of Young Apprenticeships in 2004 for those aged 14 to 16 in full time education.
Personal Achievement Awards will be awarded to apprentices in the 16-18 and 19-24 age categories who have successfully overcome barriers to achievement.
In addition to the Apprentices' awards, employers can enter one of four categories, depending on company size, they are Micro (for 1-9 employees), Small (10-49 employees), Medium (50-249 employees) and Large (250+ employees).
They are assessed on a number of criteria including implementation of the Apprenticeship programme, clear demonstration of the way Apprenticeships have benefited their business and the level of support provided to their apprentices.
