New appointment to GoSkills board

Andrew Chivers is the latest addition to the Board of GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council for passenger transport.

Chivers is managing director of the National Express Group's rail operation, Londonlines (operators of the Silverlink, Wagn and c2c franchises).

Welcoming his appointment, he said: "I am very pleased to have been appointed to the GoSkills Board in 2006. I believe that it is important that the unique features of the rail industry are taken into account when developing the strategy and policy for skills and training.

"I hope that through my appointment I can help the industry take full advantage of the opportunities to develop our people so that they are better equipped to continue our drive to raise our standards of safety, punctuality and customer service."

Peter Huntington, GoSkills' Chief Executive, added: "Andrew's appointment to our Board gives us the opportunity to gain significant knowledge of the rail industry from someone who has worked within it in various capacities for the best part of 20 years.

"His experience in building relationships with customers, suppliers and staff, will prove invaluable in identifying the skills required to develop qualifications and improve standards throughout the industry."
