Learning portal wins award for B&Q

B&Q has won the 'HR Excellence in Diversity' Award at the Human Resources Excellence Awards 2004. The winning programme, Management Academy, is a collaborative learning portal designed and delivered by Epic Group plc.

The Management Academy features a range of interactive facilities including SMS triggers, discussion group areas and e-learning modules. It takes a blended learning approach, integrating online and offline means and facilitating the use of an array of learning styles and methods.

The judges commented that the development solution was 'one of the best examples that they have seen in that it is a sustainable, cost effective and accessible tool that has laid foundations for a long term strategy'.

Judges noted that B&Q has successfully implemented diversity initiatives which help the company recruit and retain top talent. The judges described B&Q's submission as 'outstanding', saying B&Q is a fantastic example of an organisation that has truly embraced diversity in all facets; age, gender and ethnic minority. B&Q also merited a Special Commendation for the overall 'HR Excellence Award', for its outstanding performance, passion and energy in diversity initiatives.

Ray Baker, Director of Social Responsibility, said "We're delighted to win this award. Diversity for B&Q means understanding and reflecting the communities we trade in and building customer and employee loyalty. Winning this award proves that we do this exceptionally well."

The Management Academy was created in Arena, Epic’s custom built learner-centric, virtual community. Arena provides a route where learners can learn, access content, collaborate and communicate. The portal also provides tracking and access to individual learning plans.
