Regional celebration events for STAR Award nominees

A series of regional celebration events are being held this week for the nominees for the 2007 QIA STAR Awards.

The events will take place at Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies on 9 October, Church House in Westminster on 10 October and Newcastle College on Thursday 11 October.

Each event will be hosted by a regional media personality and attended by short listed nominees, their nominators and special guests.

The QIA STAR Awards aim to recognise and reward the unsung heroes of the learning and skills sector. This year's shortlisted nominees come from a variety of workplaces including FE colleges, sixth form colleges, adult and community learning centres, voluntary and community organisations, and work-based learning and offender learning providers.

The 2007 QIA STAR Award categories are:

  • Outstanding teaching, training and learning practitioner
  • Outstanding contribution to Skills for Life
  • Outstanding provision of learning opportunities in response to learners' needs
  • Outstanding contribution to engaging employers
  • Outstanding contribution to workforce development
  • Outstanding contribution in a support role
  • Outstanding contribution to learning support
  • Outstanding leadership
  • Outstanding innovation
  • Outstanding contribution to the development of the further education system

The overall category winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Old Billingsgate in London on Monday 26 November.
