CPM takes blended approach to leadership training
Field marketing agency CPM is using an online learning course from Balance Learning to create a blended approach to leadership training for its 300 managers and team leaders.
Called Leadership and Teamwork, the online course covers a range of topics including how to adopt a facilitative style of leadership and how to set guidelines for performance, establish clear goals and grow a team through its stages.
"When we saw Balance Learning’s online course, we felt the content was exactly right for us," said Debbie Clifford, CPM’s Training Manager. "It had everything you need to know to be a good manager.
“We decided to design our own workshop around the course content. By blending face-to-face and online learning, we were able to keep this workshop short and focussed, thus ensuring that people don’t need to spend large amounts of time away from the workplace for training."
Accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management, Leadership and Teamwork includes video scenarios, interactive exercises and pre and post-course tests.
"The online course is very easy to use," said Debbie Clifford. "It highlights the key skills, so when the participants attend the workshop, they know what they need to do to effect a change that will make them better at their job. This makes them much more receptive to the workshop.
“They can also start to put some of the theory into practice beforehand, which means they can use their workshop time productively to discuss their experiences in a supportive environment."
CPM is creating dedicated learning rooms at each of its five UK office sites, where its managers and team leaders will access the online learning. The workshops - which will recap on the learning messages and help individuals implement behavioural change - will be run fortnightly for groups of managers and team leaders from different office sites.
"We want to create a true learning environment because it can be difficult to concentrate on learning whilst you are at your desk," said Debbie Clifford. "One of the great things about the online learning course is that it delivers consistent training messages every time. We can use it to train any newly-recruited managers in the future."
