Telewest duo complete first online BTEC qualification

Two Telewest employees, Victoria Martin and Leeanne Brodie, who both work for Telewest’s networks, technology and IT division in Uddingston, are the first ever candidates to complete an online BTEC qualification in the UK.

The new qualification, accredited by Edexcel, was developed by Pentland ACL from a Telewest bespoke course called “Industry Awareness” initially designed and created by Red Tray Limited. The course provides a comprehensive overview of the technologies Telewest uses to deliver its products and services to its customers.

Jeannette Kelland, training adviser, networks, technology and IT said, "Telewest always aims to offer employees comprehensive and innovative training solutions. The BTEC course has been extremely well received and we are delighted that the first two qualifications have been awarded."

James Owens, managing director, Pentland ACL said, "We’re very pleased to have broken the mould in online qualifications. Now that BTEC qualifications are available in this manner, candidates will be able to take advantage of a whole range of online subjects and qualifications in the near future, being able to study and take exams at times that suit their personal circumstances."

Rick Firth, BTEC director, Edexcel said, "Congratulations to both Victoria Martin and Leeanne Brodie on completing their BTEC qualification. BTECs have excellent recognition in the marketplace because they deliver market needed skills. Our aim is to offer qualifications and products that continue to be respected and demanded by industry, sought after by students and parents, and recognised for meeting national and international needs by the education sector, government, and regulators."
