3M Six-Sigma project points to STAR

3M UK plc has carried out a Six-Sigma analysis examining the efficiency of all its training related processes. The results of the nine-month long project showed that the best way for 3M to achieve greater spending leverage, guarantee quality and consolidate their operations, was through a managed training service.

3M awarded the contract to Brighton-based training services provider and consultancy, STAR Consulting. Under the terms of the contract, STAR Consulting manages and administers the procurement of staff development training - including IT, management and soft skills training for 3M's UK division. 3M has its UK headquarters in Bracknell, Berkshire with sites throughout the UK.

Ian Walton, Human Resources Development Manager and leader of the Six-Sigma project said: "We expect that single source supply will improve efficiency and reduce costs in all our training activities, while STAR's reporting facilities will help us track our expenditure and measure return on investment."

"We chose STAR Consulting because of the wide variety of training they provide, the service levels and cost-savings they deliver as well as their ability to integrate with 3M UK's company culture."

Gabrielle Gardner, MD, STAR Consulting, said: "The methodical approach taken by 3M affirms the benefits of a managed training service. We are delighted to be working with them and look forward to a productive long-term relationship."
