Skillset's Inside Pictures launches

Inside Pictures, the film business training programme funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund, is now accepting applications.

Comprising three intensive one-week modules, Skillset's Inside Pictures takes place in London and Los Angeles between November 2004 and May 2005. Seminars, workshops and studio visits are hosted by some of the US and UK's most senior industry professionals including writer Richard Curtis; Jeffrey Katzenberg, co-founder of Dreamworks SKG; and Rick Finkelstein, President and COO of Universal Pictures.

The programme covers all aspects of international film business - from development through production, financing, worldwide distribution and exhibition - and provides networking and profile raising opportunities for the participants.

According to Skillset, the 14 successful applicants will be executives and producers who display ambition, a determination to broaden their knowledge of the global film industry, and expand their network of contacts. They should have a minimum of a 3 year track record in film or an associated creative industry such as television, advertising or music.

This initiative is supported by the National Lottery through the Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of A Bigger Future, the UK Film Skills Strategy and is run by Michael Kuhn's Qwerty Films.

"The importance of the business side of filmmaking and the skills necessary to be successful at it are far too often overlooked and undervalued", said Stewart Till, the newly appointed Chairman of the UK Film Council and Skillset's Deputy Chair. "A Bigger Future makes those skills a priority and Skillset's Inside Pictures is the first of many initiatives to ensure UK producers and executives are amongst the best in the world."

Judy Counihan, Director of Film at Skillset, commented: "Skillset's Inside Pictures is a unique business programme which offers our industry's brightest and most promising talent an intense exposure to all the elements which help to forge not only successful careers but also successful movies."

Jill Tandy, Programme Director and Co-Managing Director of Qwerty Films, said:
"It is extremely gratifying that the speakers - all top calibre, extremely busy professionals - continue to happily give their time to this programme. There is undoubtedly a great desire to help secure the UK film industry's future by sharing hard-won information and invaluable wisdom with the upcoming generation of producers and executives. We will all benefit from this investment."
